Project 5 of 52 : DIY hexagon wall display

Mr. Mean Wall got the best of me

and i ended up putting my genius idea

in Little Lady's room.

although the large wall in the family room is still bare

i am quite pleased with Little Lady's wall.

i used boxes from here

painted them and mod-podged vintage wallpaper on the lids.

Henry wants to stay in Little Lady's room for awhile.

he enjoys the view

and the company.

now we just need to fill them with treasures and trinkets.

speaking of treasures.

the lovely plaque of the little girl painting

was thrifted a year ago.

when i saw her i just sighed

and thought of Little Lady and her love of all things art
drawing, painting, stickers, markers, etc.

enjoy lovelies.
i'm off to snuggle a very cuddly Bitty Boy
who-can you believe it- is almost 6 months old.

Project 52 : 3 DIY felt cloud decor

i once saw a cloud/raindrop mobile on etsy.

i loved it dearly 

and meant to make one for Little Man.

He's a tad too big for a mobile now

so i twisted it a bit and

made him a sweet wall of clouds instead.

its a pretty easy project

all you need to know 

is how to use scissors

and how to hand sew two pieces of something together.

but be smarter than me 

and use a sharper needle than what i used.

shesh.

here's what you will need :

 you will also need stuffing, which i did not photograph

my stuffing was being rather stubborn

and could not be found at picture time.

step 1

cut out a felt cloud to use as template

pin said cloud to other pieces of felt

and cut out more clouds

and more clouds

and more.

you will need two (or "twoh" as GiGi says) clouds

for every one cloud you put on your wall.

save your scraps for the raindrops!

step 2

use your [sharp] needle and yarn

and stitch your clouds together

but before you close them

make sure to stuff them!

step 3

cut out raindrops with your scraps.

step 4

hang up and enjoy

you can even point at them

and saw "whoooooooeeee"

like Little Man does.

he and Rescued Dog read a book

while i took the photos.

i love it.

Little Man loves it.

and now i need to make some for my room, heeeee.

Feathered Nest : intimidating wall

so I have this large wall in our family room

and even though we have lived here 

for a few months now

i still have yet to hang anything up.

it scares me.

"hello, i'm a big white wall.

i will eat anything you put on me.

i'm here to stare at you as you crochet

making you wiggle on the couch nervously."

that wall and i? we don't get along.

BUT

i have a plan

shhh, don't tell the wall.

notice a common theme?

boxes on the wall

with lovely papers

and lovely things (i.e., Henry, Hoot, Frederick).

i decided Mr. Mean Wall (as he will now be referred to as)

must have a similar display.

oh i can see it in my mind

and it makes me smile.

but, how to accomplish such a task?

i began looking for wood crates

but decided that i did not like the open slats

and needed something more solid

so i found some shallow boxes that might work.

too expensive.

too boring.

Mr. Mean Wall mocked my from downstairs.

i grumbled and kept looking.

found this.

too small but i liked the hexagon shape

much better than a boring square.

ALAS, here it was.

inexpensive hexagon boxes made of paper mache

light enough to hang

different sizes

perfect.

i purchased a few in different sizes and cannot wait until they arrive.

i will coat them with paint and pretty papers

and perhaps some washi tape.

then adorn them with my lovely brass figurines

and other goodness.

surrounded by pictures of my sweet babies

and perhaps and snapshot of Handsome Man and i.

watch out Mr. Mean Wall.

Project 52 : 2 DIY Pom Pom Flowers

Little Lady and i had quite the time

making these adorable pom pom flowers.

 i made them for a shelf 

in the kitchen

but after photographing them in my room

i decided we need to make some more.

here's what you need :

step 1 : make your pom pom flowers

there are lots of tutorials on the internet

or you can use a pom pom maker.

i really want to purchase one.

i was going to photograph a tutorial 

on how to make the pom poms with just your hands

but i'm lazy, heee.

step 2 : slide wood sticks in the pom pom

BAM, you're done.

pretty simple

pretty quick.

the perfect craft for doing with Little Ladies.

over on the other side of the bedroom
stand my dresser.
Handsome Man has the long one with the mirror
and i have the tall one.

sigh.
i love my thrifted furniture.

please note the owl cross stitch hung above my dresser.
my dearest sister made that for me.
i love him so.
his name is Petrey
and he greets me happily every morning
as i pick out my socks from the top drawer.

a handmade holiday

feathered nest

does not sport a fireplace.

and one always needs a mantle

to perch one's bits and bobs

[ especially the seasonally type ]

so i hung a rather large shelf

above my retro couch

and deemed it Mantle.

over thanksgiving

Mantle was decorated with 

yarn wrapped jars full of 

dried flowers from our yard

and strung with a  yarn pom-pom garland.

i got the heart wiggles

each time i walked into the family room.

however . . . 

the seasons have changed

and thus Mantle required new bits and bobs.

for the centerpiece

i happily strung some bulbs in my favorite frame

and coupled it with a terrific thrift 

( the JOY embroidery ).

when i saw that treasure at my local thrift store

i could not believe my luck.

some lovely lady had taken the time

to french knot good ole santa's entire beard.

i simply adore it.

then, this morning, while Little Man and Bitty Boy snoozed

Little Lady and i created

3 trees so sweet.

  

using a hot glue gun and humming to pandora

we attached ribbon, lace, fabric, letters, felt, sequins,

and topped them each with a glass bulb.

i do so love them ever much.

and can't help myself from wandering

into the living room

for a look now and then.

i think i need to make

at least 7 more.

wouldn't you agree??

my kitchen needs some christmas cheer.

Mantle cannot have all the fun,

or the other rooms will get jealous.

the wall between the living room and kitchen

sports my yarn wreath

and a granny chic banner i stitched up a few weeks ago.

every time i come down the stairs

she reminds me to be merry

and enjoy my life.

here's my little helper . . .

and here's the mess we made.

Winnie loved being used so thoroughly

... even if she did get a little hot glue upon her top ...

Thankful #1

november is my favorite month

today i am thankful for 

Little Lady's squinty-eyed-unabashed-love-of-everything

we are finally settled in Feathered Nest.

it was quite an adventure--

we searched and searched for 1 year

and when we found Feathered Nest

it took 3 months to close

and officially claim her as our own.

it took a whole weekend to move

[ the first moving company never showed up ]

but here we are

in a lovely home

already filled with giggles
