Feathered Nest : intimidating wall

so I have this large wall in our family room
and even though we have lived here
for a few months now
i still have yet to hang anything up.

it scares me.
"hello, i'm a big white wall.
i will eat anything you put on me.
i'm here to stare at you as you crochet
making you wiggle on the couch nervously."

that wall and i? we don't get along.

BUT
i have a plan
shhh, don't tell the wall.

please behold the following images.

notice a common theme?
boxes on the wall
with lovely papers
and lovely things (i.e., Henry, Hoot, Frederick).

i decided Mr. Mean Wall (as he will now be referred to as)
must have a similar display.
oh i can see it in my mind
and it makes me smile.
but, how to accomplish such a task?

i began looking for wood crates
but decided that i did not like the open slats
and needed something more solid
so i found some shallow boxes that might work.
too expensive.
too boring.
Mr. Mean Wall mocked my from downstairs.
i grumbled and kept looking.

found this.
too small but i liked the hexagon shape
much better than a boring square.
inexpensive hexagon boxes made of paper mache
light enough to hang
different sizes
perfect.

i purchased a few in different sizes and cannot wait until they arrive.
i will coat them with paint and pretty papers
and perhaps some washi tape.
then adorn them with my lovely brass figurines
and other goodness.
surrounded by pictures of my sweet babies
and perhaps and snapshot of Handsome Man and i.

watch out Mr. Mean Wall.
here i come.

lovely inspiration : if i were a doll

if i were a doll

this would be my house

my bathroom would be orange
and it would always be neat and organized
never a mess

my desk would be yellow
full of craftiness goodness
to putter about with

would have an aqua fridge
for what color is more lovely
than aqua?

i would have a groovy place
to entertain my lovely friends

and this would be my laundry line
crochet purse to boot

if i were a doll
life would be sweet

but not as sweet
as having 3 little birds
and a Handsome Man
to snuggle with :)

lovely inspiration : more orange

i sometimes wonder if i even have a blog...
and then i remember,
yes dearest, you do have a blog!
you are just simply terrible
oh, so terrible at writing on it.

well let me defend myself ... to myself
i have been quite busy i hope you know
i'm swimming in the creative abyss of "nesting"
-as my mother and father call it-
a frantic hormone driven frenzy to do something to the space you live
before the new baby arrives.

with Little Lady the frenzy was cleaning.
i cleaned, cleaned, cleaned.
Handsome Man thoroughly enjoyed that phase of nesting.

with Little Man it was purging.
(and i mean besides the throwing up sick part)
i got rid of so much stuff.
where did i get all of this
i asked myself, hands on hips, a scowl on my face
when Handsome Man and I got married
all of our stuff (save a few pieces of furniture) fit into our little cars.

and this baby? little baby whoosit!?
she (or he <--inserted for Handsome Man's sake)
has got me rushing around the house
rearranging, spray painting, refashioning.
i'm an insane cyclone of CHANGE!

and here's a lovely image just for sarah. more orange inspiration!

its just so vibrant.

coming in a few days (or weeks, knowing me)
i shall be posting some photographs
of the aftermath of my cyclone through the family room
i'm rather pleased with the results :)

things have been a tid bit crazy the past few days :
frolicked with Little Lady at the park when the sun finally visited me
bumbled around the house and tidied up here and there- not too much though
clutter comforts me (much to the disdain of Handsome Man)
lots of naps and snuggles with Little Man
errands chores to do lists
things complete and a sense of satisfaction

i have been thinking
little thoughts sneaking in and out
like tendrils of smoke

i want to be me
but sometimes Mr Doubt comes
and Mr Fear
not very good friends
and quite unwelcome when they visit
but the quote above brought me much comfort

and so my little dears
i am going to be better about embracing myself and all of my quirks!

oh my, the wind outside is quite scary. thank goodness Little Man is asleep next to me
he will keep me safe :)

tomorrow i will be posting my Orange Inspiration. i have fallen quite, quite, quite utterly and completely in love with what i created from my inspiration. sigh. here's a hint : yarn, buttons, thread, and vintage lace. could any combination be any more perfect?

lovely inspiration : orange

I am rather tired of all the gloom.
Hello sun! Come out and warm up my highly-perched nest!
Come out so Little Lady can cruise around on her pink tricycle
and Little Man can know what grass feels like and how the breeze tastes.

Do come soon, dear sun. We miss you.

When I saw this photo

my spirits raised a little indeed.
in fact, I felt quite perfectly peachy.

Something about orange . . . so much LIFE and PASSION!
My goal today is to do something inspired by ORANGE

Handsome Man and I will be taking Little Man a-house-hunting today. Little Lady will be having a little vacation at Nana's house. Hopefully, if the creative muses love me so and if luck bends my way a tid bit, I will bringing home a cast off wooden doll house upon our return to our highly-perched nest.

I will coat her with paint
modge podge her walls with pretty papers
and scrounge up some bits of carpet.
Little Lady will have a tiny nest of her own
for all her petshops and people.

Everyone needs a home.

lovely inspiration : pretty colors

This photo is inspiring me today.
I saw it on etsy and wanted to paint my walls or something. I am REALLY into aqua lately. I just adore it.

I can tell today is going to be a lazy day. I was just laying on the floor while the babies played around me and then Little Man started chewing on my hair and I decided it was probably time to move. haha.

I'm thinking about making cookies today. How sweet are these?

I have to admit that I have no creativity when it comes to food. I need to get better about that.

Have a lovely day!

for gigi

Dearest Gigi,

You asked me to start writing on my blog again. sigh.
I suppose I shall. I'm seeing the light at the end of this sick-part-of-pregnancy-tunnel, so perhaps my life may again begin to include more than just naps, baby snuggles, and pregnancy cravings.

Anthropology has a new line specifically for weddings--sigh.

I'm in love with these shoes :

If Handsome Man and I could remarry next month, I would wear this gown *SWOON* :

I'd have my hair, down and long, curled, and embellished with this beauty :

oooooo, all this talk about weddings, gowns, accessories . . . I think I may be asking Handsome Man a certain question soon!! Who says you can't get married to your husband once you're already married!

lovely inspiration : creative space

my mother would just adore a craft room in these shades. she's pink's biggest fan.

This picture makes me want to eat cotton candy.
I love how everything is lined up and hanging just so. An easy station to work at.
Just a little a bit too pink for me!

lovely inspiration : creative space

for the next couple of months, my Monday Lovely Inspiration posts will be creative spaces that I have discovered and adore. sit back, relax, and enjoy :)

there's something so splendid about this sewing space.

the colors make me miss the subtle warmth of spring.
and it somehow reminds me of my grandmother's sewing room :)

I adore the spool holder. wonder where i can find one for myself. i'm always in need of pretty things to better organize all my ... stuff ...

lovely DIY : ribbon tree (or any shape!)

discovered this lovely DIY created by the ever so lovely Lola Nova

she made ribbon trees that are the sweetest ever.

all it requires is a little sewing (or you can glue if you don't have a sewing machine), a little paper, and lots of trims!

she made some tags with the same basic pattern.

I ADORE the bird garland she created. there's something about birds --sigh-- if you've been in my kitchen you know I adore birds . . . and owls . . . and hummingbirds. so whimsy :)

I'm going to give it a try this week since I have a lovely stash of vintage lace and trims that are just perfect. I'll make sure to share photos of what I make. Head on over to her DIY post and do it with me :)

inspiration : words

"Behold, he changed their hearts, he awakened them from a deep sleep, and they awoke unto God. Behold, they were in the mists of darkness; nevertheless, their souls were illuminated by the light of the everlasting word." ( Alma 5:7 )

inspiration : emma lamb's studio

emma lamb posted a picture of her studio recently and i feel utterly inspired.

i love the soft, bright colors and all the little bits and bobs. so much creativity in such little piles :)

well, little lady is ready for a bathy and then we're off to nana's house: snuggles and fun for the little ones and a nice, relaxing break for the bigger one [me].
