aspire : to be organized

got the january edition of Better Homes and Gardens.

they had an articles of being organized for the new year. how did they know that's what i needed?! i aspire this year to be a little more organized. i am a little bit of a clutterbug. i find clutter quite comforting in a way. and at the same time it can threaten to take over my house.

here's a few of my favorite suggestions:

+ avoid zigzag organizing. scattering your efforts over multiple rooms prevents you from seeing progress. for visible, dramatic results, work one room at a time, one section at a time, completing each area before you move on to the next. [ i am so guilty of zigzag cleaning--now it makes sense why i get so frustrated, i never see myself get anything completely done! ]

+ while sorting ask: do i love it, do i use it, do i need it?

+ relegating a sentimental item you no longer have use for to a box in the closet, basement, or attic does nothing to honor it. take a photo of the item and put it in a scrapbook. then donate the item. [ love this idea, i'm holding on to too many items. i should just take pictures and be done with it ]

in the near future we'll be rearranging the furniture around our apartment. who am i kidding, i'm always making handsome man do that. but this time it will be a big change. little man's crib will go into the office with handsome man's desk. my desk will come into our bedroom. since i'm opening up shoppe soon, i want to create a functional workspace and make sure my workstation wont clutter our bedroom.

i'm thinking about getting this bookshelf from ikea and using baskets to sort everything. hiding things in baskets will hopefully keep the little lady from playing with everything.

danni at ohhellofriend did a studio tour of sadie olive ( a lover of vintage. she has the cutest shoppe ).

sigh. i just loved sadie's creative space. one day i will have a room all to myself! where i can leave it a mess if i want to. where i can hang up pretty things that inspire me! and where i dont have to worry about little hands getting into everything hehe.

this week ( and this whole year ) I aspire to be more organized :)
